In lore, this Ritual is cast by Summoners who feel like they are loosing a battle and need to strengthen their best creature no matter the cost. Instead of using their own energy for this ritual, they are cursing their creature so it has to take eneregy from others by killing them.

In the game it's a great finishing move card since it gives a hefty +5 attack to a creature and the tag Focusfire, which allows the creature to attack the weakest ressource of the enemy player.
